Win Streak Ends as Women’s Soccer Falls 5-0 at Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. – Southern Vermont College's win streak was snapped Saturday night as the Mountaineers lost 5-0 at The Sage Colleges in non-conference women's soccer action at Albany College of Pharmacy.

The hosting Gators went up 3-0 through the opening 45 minutes before padding their lead with another pair in the second half.

The Mountaineers move to 3-2 on the year with the defeat, next hosting Morrisville State College on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. kickoff. They had won three straight heading into Saturday evening.

Sage managed the game well, conceding just one shot on goal from SVC taken by freshman Taylor Mallett (Berwick, Maine). Southern Vermont junior keeper Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) came up with 12 saves on the night as the hosts readily took their looks at net.

Neither side could manufacture much offense through the first nine minutes before the Gators got on the board with a trickle off Mascari's hands. Sage struck again just four minutes later and then put up the 3-0 lead 16:46 into the match.

That score would be sustained through the remainder of the half but would quickly change once the time started to tick once again. The hosts notched one just three minutes into the second period, and they finalized the score with another in the 60th minute.
