ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College men's volleyball team had a tough first day of the Elmira Invitational Friday evening as the Mountaineers lost 3-0 to hosting Elmira College before being swept by Nazareth College at Speidel Gymnasium.
SVC (0-4) concludes its participation in the Invitational on Saturday— taking on D'Youville College at 12 p.m. before lining up against Penn State Altoona at 4 p.m.

The Soaring Eagles took their tournament's opener with straight-set scores of 25-17, 25-7, and 25-17.
SVC junior Elmer Olivares (Miami, Fla.) tallied a team-high seven kills against Elmira while adding three digs to his line. Freshman libero Chris Jimenez (Newark, N.J.) had a match-best seven digs on the defensive end, and classmate Bryan Bernal (Riverside, Calif.) chalked up seven assists, five digs and a service ace. Senior Jeff James (Bowie, Md.) had a pair of block assists, a kill and a service ace in the effort.
Nazareth 3 – Southern Vermont 0
NC downed the Mountaineers with game scores of 25-14, 25-11, and 25-10.
Olivares once again led his team with five kills, and he also popped up a pair of digs. Bernal recorded eight assists and two service aces while junior Yonas Million (Rockville, Md.) notched three kills and three digs. Jimenez chipped in with three digs in the loss.
