DALLAS, Texas – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) recognized the outstanding week by Southern Vermont College senior John Arancio (Oradell, N.J.) by naming him the organization's Division III National Hitter of the Week for the period of April 23-29 on Wednesday.
Arancio, who had been announced as the New England Collegiate Conference's (NECC) Player of the Week on Monday, did it all through Southern Vermont's four games. He hit .688 and registered a 1.500 slugging percentage with 11 RBIs, nine runs scored, and a walk.
The senior shortstop knocked out home runs in three consecutive games with one of those being his second grand slam of the year. He also hit for the cycle in a league win over Newbury College on Friday before tallying his 100th career hit on Saturday.
"I think John's week really puts an exclamation point on the season that he had," said Mountaineer first-year head coach Adam Skonieczki. "He has been the anchor in our lineup day-in and day-out. The National Hitter of the Week is such an honor to cap a very successful career here at Southern Vermont. Needless to say, John will be missed next spring."
Monday's accolade was Arancio's third NECC Player of the Week honor in his SVC career, and Wednesday's was the first-ever for Southern Vermont.
