Michael Donoghue | Inducted 2000

 


Michael Donoghue graduated from St. Joseph College in 1971 and played for the men’s basketball team from 1969-1971. Donoghue, inducted in 2000, is one of Southern Vermont College’s Intercollegiate Sports Pioneers. He also served as Chairman of the SVC Alumni Association from 1997-2000, was an active member on the SVC Board of Trustees for three terms, and received the prestigious Mountaineer Athletics Award in 1998. Donoghue made a name for himself as an award-winning news and sports writer for the Burlington Free Press. He was a 10-time Vermont Sportswriter of the Year and served two years as National President of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Donoghue was a charter member of the New England Press Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and also was named to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. He has worked for St. Michael’s College as an adjunct professor of Journalism for three decades.
